  Crater GASSENDI

Crater GASSENDI 1

The Gassendi Crater is located on the North bank of Mare Humorum. It is 67 miles in diameter with steep slopes on the northern side. The crater on the Northern rim is designated Gassendi A and the smaller crater to its North is Gassendi B. The Gassnedi Crater is also known as a "Walled Plain" reflecting its size and the smooth floor. The floor of the crater was filled with lava sometime after it was formed by a large impact. The central mountains, typical of impact craters, are approximately 3630 feet (1200 meters) in height.
